“All writers build roads from the world in which they live to the world of the imagination,” said Salman Rushdie at a celebration of Italo Calvino. Fundamentally, a writer strives to communicate important ideas. Too often, though, road blocks obstruct the writer’s ability to reach her goals.
Open Road Writing was launched to guide writers toward greater confidence in their work by offering writer-centered instruction. From lunch-time punctuation seminars to grant reviews to admission essay tutorials to creative writing workshops, you’ll find the assistance you need to steer away from the road blocks and towards better writing.
About Beverly Army Williams
I have a passionate belief that writing is not just a solitary endeavor. To write successfully, we must write with an audience and purpose in mind. Since 2000 I have brought my excitement for words and communication to nearly 900 students. I teach college-level courses in business writing, composition, and creative writing, as well as courses designed to prepare high school students for the SATs.
Raised in Connecticut, I returned here in 2006 after living in New York and New Mexico for sixteen years. While in New York, I worked in public relations writing internal and external newsletters, press releases, speeches, and other communication pieces. As a grant writer I authored and co-authored grants on all funding levels. My clients have included visual artists, musicians, and non-profit organizations.
I hold a MA in English literature and a MFA in Creative Writing. My work has appeared in Iconoclast, Knitty.com, The Smart Knitter, and numerous publications in Westchester County.
